Philips 328P6VJEB: extra colour, low price

Philips 328P6VJEB: extra colour, low price

The Philips 328P6VJEB will be available before Christmas, offering users plenty of room to spread out and enjoy vivid, detailed reproduction in Ultra High Definition.

The new display combines UltraClear 4K resolution – 3840 x 2160 pixels – with the extra-wide colour gamut of UltraColor technology and advanced Vertical Alignment (VA) technology for super-high contrast. The expansive 31.5-inch 328P6VJEB display gives users plenty of room to spread out and enjoy vivid, detailed reproduction in Ultra High Definition. With versatile connectivity and MHL support, it’s also designed to be supremely easy to connect and enjoy.

“This new Philips Monitors display was developed with professional users such as graphics designers, CAD engineers and finance experts in mind,” comments Artem Khomenko, Product Manager Philips monitors Europe at MMD. “These are people for whom accurate and vivid on-screen reproduction of fine detail is key to staying productive and effective at work. The combination of advanced colour and resolution technologies makes this display a great fit for professional users looking for extra colour accuracy and resolution at a highly affordable price point.”

UltraColor technology makes colour reproduction more accurate and brilliant. Supporting a wider gamut (95% of the NTSC gamut as opposed to the typical 72%), UltraColor produces more natural-looking greens, vivid reds and deeper blues by expanding the range of colours that users perceive on the display. It does this through changes to the actual chemistry of the panel, rather than by fine-tuning colour settings through software. UltraColor ensures that the colour on the screen is a closer match to that of real-life objects, benefiting both professional applications and after-hours media entertainment.

Philips 328P6VJEB: extra colour, low price

The screen, a comfortable 31.5? in size, offers a 3840 x 2160 resolution panel with a 4ms G2G response time, 3000:1 static contrast ratio, 300 cd/m2 brightness, 178/178 viewing angles. The 10-bit display delivers rich colour depth with 1.074 billion colours and 12-bit internal processing for recreating smooth, natural colours without gradations and colour banding.

Complementing its colour and resolution performance, the display also features VA technology, advanced multi-domain vertical alignment technology that delivers super-high static contrast ratios for extra vivid and bright images: especially suitable for photos and demanding graphics applications.

In terms of connections the display features SmartConnect for 4K: the latest, advanced multi-connections, including VGA, DL-DVI, DisplayPort and HDMI 2.0. The display also supports USB 3.0 with super-fast transfer rates of 5 GB per second. Other connectivity options include MHL, enabling users to employ mobile content with the much larger screen of the 328P6VJEB display. Built-in 2x 3W stereo speakers, an audio input, headphone jack, PiP and PbP support are also present. As usual on such a large display, the stand supports tilt, height, swivel and pivot adjustments.

The Philips 328P6VJEB display has a retail price in Europe of GBP 599.00. Expect to pay around $700 when this model reaches the United States.

The new Social Publishing panel (beta) in Premiere Pro

Adobe thinks that online content creators are spending too much time preparing video for social media channels. Deciding on codecs & various settings, description fields, and tags, and later interpreting video stats can be a time sink. To help out, Adobe is piloting a new streamlined workflow in Premiere Pro for publishing videos to social media, optimized for content creators.

With cross-platform social publishing and performance tracking, strategic recommendations to achieve peak performance, and time-savers like the ability to save custom keyword sets and upload custom thumbnails, the Social Publishing Panel (beta) is designed to make online video publishing easier.

social-publishing-panel-beta_youtube_save-tag-set

Currently, the Social Publishing Panel feature is in beta, limited to paid Creative Cloud members, and open for applications starting November 2. Let’s hope that the render engine is now the same everywhere, not one for apps and another for Adobe Media Encoder.

Social Publishing Panel features include:

* Cross-Platform Social Media Publishing
Easily select social media export presets, populate required platform-specific metadata, and add tags from within Premiere Pro.

* Keyword Presets
Making your content discoverable requires consistent, detailed, optimized searchable keywords and tags. With keyword presets in the Social Publishing panel (beta), you can develop a list of tags and attach them to your different videos, series, seasons, or channels with a single click – eliminating the need to type out insert every keyword individually from memory, ensuring consistency.

* Custom Thumbnail
Having a dynamic thumbnail is essential to making your video stand out.

* Content Scheduling
You can schedule videos to publish across multiple social platforms in staggered timing or simultaneously in the case of a time sensitive post that you want to blast out – like the drop of a musical album or the start of a contest campaign.

* Rendition Management
Rendition Groups allow you to group two or more videos together during the publish stage so that they are tracked as a single asset across the different social platforms you post to. For example, a 10-minute vlog posted on YouTube along with a shorter version with silent auto-play captions for Facebook and a 30-second version for use as promotion on Twitter, can be tracked across all of the platforms as if it were a single video. You can view performance of the collection as a whole, or dig deeper into each rendition’s performance based on platform so you can manage and promote content renditions more easily.

* Strategic Recommendations for Peak Performance
Interpreting analytics from multiple social platforms can be confusing. Over time, the Social Publishing panel (beta) will learn and adapt based on your content performance across platforms to provide detailed, personalized recommendations like keyword tags that could result in the highest click rates, or what time/day of the week for posting garners the most views, to provide key insights into the viewing patterns and preferences of audiences. Personalized recommendations may help steer your creative plans and publishing strategies for peak performance.

Here’s a backgrounder on the new feature for Premiere Pro, though its audio is more substandard than the usual social media fare created with Adobe tools.

Panavision takes Millenium DXL to Poland

Panavision takes Millenium DXL to Poland

New Panavision T Series anamorphic lenses, two workshops, a mobile post-production system, the unique Millennium DXL and other offerings mark Panavision’s exhibiting space at the European film festival.

Unveiled earlier this year, the Panavision Millennium DXL was developed through an unprecedented collaboration of three companies, bringing together large-format optics and modular accessories from Panavision; an 8K sensor from RED Digital Cinema; and new color science and optimized workflow from Light Iron. Presentations on the DXL at the Camerimage International Film Festival will take place each day from Nov. 14 through Nov. 17, with demo footage screening at the MCK. The camera is expected to be available in early 2017 for rent exclusively through Panavision facilities worldwide.

The company also takes to Poland the Panavision T Series anamorphic lenses. At Panavision’s exhibit, attendees will see the product portfolio, ranging in current focal lengths of 35mm, 60mm, 100mm, 135mm, 150mm, and preview the upcoming additions to the lineup in 50mm, 75mm, 180mm. The lenses build on Panavision’s long tradition of designing and developing high-quality anamorphic lenses for motion picture. They combine new optical layouts with mechanical advances from the G Series, but have a larger sweet spot and focus closer than some of their predecessors. They are also tuned to be compatible with digital sensors without losing any of the imaging characteristics that have become part of the anamorphic grammar.

Camerimage’s Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Michael Chapman, ASC will be taking the stage at the MCK on Nov. 15 at 11:00 a.m. CET. This event is a highlight of the festival, which is presented by Panavision. Oscar nominated for his work on Raging Bull in 1981 and The Fugitive in 1994, Chapman’s legacy of film images over four decades places him among the elite of cinematographers. His list of memorable credits includes The Last Detail, Taxi Driver, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Lost Boys, Rising Sun, Primal Fear, Space Jam, Six Days Seven Nights, The Story of Us, The Watcher, Evolution, and Eulogy, among many others.

Following Chapman’s seminar, Panavision’s Cinematography Workshop will explore the technical and artistic characteristics of anamorphic and larger format optics. Led by Dan Sasaki, Panavision’s VP of Optical Engineering, the workshop will be held Nov. 15 from 2:00 p.m. CET in the MCK.

Also on exhibit will be the new Outpost by Panavision, a powerful mobile post-production system for on-set or near-set workflows. Originally developed by Light Iron and refined with Panavision’s modular engineering, Outpost’s lightweight, compact form factor provides efficient solutions for both creative tasks, such as look setting and processing tasks, including verified backups. Outpost helps creatives maximize their schedules with faster than real-time transcodes and same-day editorial deliverables, even for 8K footage. Like the DXL, Outpost is designed with many details and custom modules that can be configured to each production’s needs.

LEE Filters, the world’s leading manufacturer of professional quality light control filters, will debut their Cine Filters, a new range of glass neutral density camera filters. Also highlighted at the exhibit will be LEE’s Zircon Lighting Filters designed for LED lighting with new technology that gives them an increased lifespan of up to 200 times longer than standard lighting filters. Attendees can also pick up the latest copy of the famous LEE yellow swatch book, containing all their color effects filters as well as their full range of technical and diffusion filters for cinematography.

Panalux, the leading provider of lighting rental equipment for film, television, and media production, will display their latest in LED lighting technology. The rental and service provider will showcase and demo the lightweight, battery-powered Panalux LED Flex Light and yet-to-be-released soft box accessory. The bi-color, super-slim Panalux LED Flex Light is bendable and portable. The newest accessory to the Flex Light is a quick-assemble, large-format soft box that produces a beautiful, even soft light that makes the low-consumption Flex Light even more versatile. Also on display will be the Panalux Tektile2 slimline LED panels and Panalux NessLED Kit.

Definitive Guide to Editing With DaVinci Resolve Released

Blackmagic releases the official hands-on guide to editing with DaVinci Resolve 12.5. DaVinci Resolve, arguably one of the most popular dedicated color correction programs, has “dabbled” in editing with an ever increasingly complex feature set. I have, on occasion, edited in DaVinci Resolve 12.5 but I could definitely use more training, which is the exact reason I do not edit in the program more. The official hands-on training book will cover all aspects of editing with DaVinci Resolve 12.5 and will teach you the skills necessary to be a professional Resolve editor.

Editing Book

What you will learn:

  • How to setup projects, import media and use metadata to speed up your work;
  • Marking selections, editing clips in the timeline, and context sensitive trimming;
  • ?Working with titles, adding graphics, adding effects, and animating with keyframes;
  • Syncing audio with video, mixing sound, and using audio overlays for editing;
  • Basic color correction techniques using DaVinci Resolve’s legendary color tools;
  • How to finish and deliver a project to the web, for broadcast or for digital cinema;
  • Dozens of tips throughout the book that will help transform the way you work.

Editing in Resolve 12.5

It is all about the “Round-Trip” or the lack of it. For me, I tend to edit in either Adobe Premiere or Avid Media Composer. This leaves me with color correcting my raw footage in DaVinci Resolve 12.5 and editing in a separate program. Then I either conform my low-rez footage to the 4.6K raw at the end or export a QuickTime and auto-cut with the Scene Detector tool in Resolve. Neither one of these options seems ideal for me. I work in a world of tight deadlines and sometimes the option to go back and finesse the color of the video is a luxury. But, staying in one single program seems like a smart option. Especially if all I’m doing is a basic edit with a small amount of graphics. It has worked for me on smaller spots and I could see it working just as well on bigger projects.

DaVinci Resolve 12.5

DaVinci Resolve 12.5 is a professional video editor combined with the world’s most popular color corrector. So you can edit, color correct, finish, and deliver a project from one single system. DaVinci Resolve is scalable and resolution independent so it can be used on set, in a small studio, or within a fully integrated post-house system. DaVinci Resolve features the tools, compatibility, speed, and image quality needed to manage an entire workflow from beginning to end. It is the color correction solution used on many feature films.

FlexTilt Head 2, a NEW tripod head for DSLRs

Flex-Tilt Head 2, a NEW tripod head for DSLRs

Conceived with DSLRs in mind, edelkrone’s FlexTilt Head 2 is, according to the company, the ultimate pan & tilt solution to frame your shots easily and freely.

From “the ultimate tripod head solution” in 2015, to the suggestion made above, the FlexTilt Head 2 received one additional joint that makes it, says edelkrone, much more versatile. That’s enough to rename the product and give it the FlexTilt Head 2 designation.

[embedded content]

When we wrote about the original model we wrote this: “Small, with 85 x 95 x 27mm and a weight of 0,405 kg, the Flex-Tilt Head offers a spirit-level, the usual industry connections (1/4?-20 on top and 3/8?-16 on bottom), and fits in a corner of any backpack. Although it is meant to be used with a tripod, monopod or even small sliders, the Flex-Tilt Head can be used on its own, allowing its placement on the ground or up above, without any other form of support. This allows for some interesting image angles, as the promotional video suggests.”

Dimensions and weight are not much different from the original, and the concept of no buttons no locks and no knobs is still present. The joints in the FlexTilt Head 2 use edelkrone’s one-of-a kind content friction technology, says the company, which “can only be produced by super precise CNC machining” so FlexiTilt Head 2 joints “never get loose even after many adjustments unlike the copycats in the market”.

Flex-Tilt Head 2, a NEW tripod head for DSLRs

The FlexTilt Head 2, like the previous model, not only gives you a stand-alone base for placing your camera in different positions, it also allows for instant height adjustment when using a tripod, without the need to touch the tripod. It can also be used with a dolly for some longer shots, as it allows to increase range with any slider by 6.7 in /17cm) when fully extended.

With precise and smooth panning with pan markings and lens center shifting, the FlexTilt Head 2 looks, at least on paper, as an interesting portable solution to take everywhere. But only a real world test will reveal if it is more than just a good idea. It costs EUR139.99 (without taxes) in Europe and edelkrone has no indication of price for the United States.

Flixel announces Cinemagraph Pro 2

Flixel announces Cinemagraph Pro 2 for macOS

A mix of stills with animation, Cinemagraphs are one of the hottest trends in web design, moving from a technical curiosity to advertising tools. Now creating them becomes easier, with Cinemagraph Pro 2.

Available only for Mac, although a version for Windows 10 was suggested to me as viable in 2015, Cinemagraph Pro, winner of a 2014 Apple Design Award, makes the creation of cinemagraphs easy and fast. Simply import a video, select a still frame and paint motion directly on the screen. Your cinemagraph instantly comes to life. Export in broadcast quality or upload to flixel.com and easily share with the world. Cinemagraph Pro for iOS transform your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch into an amazing mobile cinemagraph studio. Capture a scene or import a video, and paint motion to reveal your cinemagraph. Add text, filters, effects and then instantly share on social networks or the web in gorgeous HD.

[embedded content]

Now comes Cinemagraph Pro 2. Flixel says it took “the top-rated, pro-level cinemagraph creation tool and updated it with a fresh new interface and advanced video editing tools that we know you will love.” And the company says that “these new changes are just the beginning. Cinemagraph Pro 2 will continue to quickly evolve with regular updates”.

A new user interface makes editing faster and easier than ever, as it unifies all editing modes. You now Mask, Trim, Loop and apply Presets to your cinemagraphs all within the same mode. You’ll be amazed at how this improves your workflow and saves you time. But that’s not all, as powerful new video transformations enable cinemagraphs of different shapes and sizes.

Cinemagraph Pro 2 offers key video transformations including zoom, flip, straighten and our most requested feature – crop. You can now easily create cinemagraphs of all shapes and sizes for ads, web, social media, digital displays, television and more. There are also new tone curve colour adjustment options, meaning Cinemagraph Pro 2 eliminates the need to use other video editing tools. Easily adjust blacks, shadows, highlights and more to quickly create the perfect look and feel for your cinemagraphs.

When it comes to sharing, Flixel increased the number of HD embeds included with Flixel Cloud memberships from 10,000 per month to 100,000 per month. That’s 1.2 million included views per year. Flixel Cloud is the only purpose-built platform for hosting and streaming cinemagraphs.

According to Flixel, the Flixel Community has thousands of members and touches every continent with enthusiastic and highly engaged users. More importantly, the 500,000+ cinemagraphs created and shared by the Flixel Community demonstrates to the world that cinemagraphs have taken their place alongside photography and video as the next great visual medium.

Flixel used the feedback of that community to improve Cinemagraph Pro with features and integrations with key partners like Adobe that improve workflows and enable many new ways to create and use cinemagraphs. The new step is represented by Cinemagraph Pro 2, which is free for those who have a Flixel Cloud Web+Apps membership. Those who have only bought a license for Cinemagraph Pro, can purchase an upgrade for $99.

LaCie Bolt3: world’s fastest desktop drive

LaCie Bolt 3: world's fastest desktop drive

Designed by Neil Poulton, the new Thunderbolt 3 portfolio of storage solutions from LaCie are presented as ideal companions to the all-new MacBook Pro.

LaCie, the premium brand from Seagate Technology plc announced its Thunderbolt 3 portfolio of storage solutions aimed at helping video professionals excel with ultra high-resolution footage. The design is by Neil Poulton, whose designs have won numerous awards since 1985, many of them related to LaCie products.

The new series of products starts with the LaCie Bolt3, which combines Thunderbolt 3 speed with the latest M.2 PCIe SSDs to create the world’s fastest desktop drive. In addition, the LaCie 12big Thunderbolt 3 and 6big Thunderbolt 3 are ready to handle massive amounts of content thanks to fast transfer speeds, RAID 5/6 security and enterprise-class drives.

LaCie Bolt 3: world's fastest desktop drive

For the Bolt3, LaCie harnessed the breakthrough performance potential of Thunderbolt 3 and paired it with two M.2 PCIe SSDs striped into a 2TB volume. Bolt3 delivers record speeds of up to 2800MB/s and cuts valuable time off of post-production workflows, such as ingesting RAW footage from RED or Blackmagic cinema cameras or transcoding 4/5/6K footage using Adobe Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve. What’s more, videographers can transfer a terabyte of 4K ProRes 4444 XQ footage from the LaCie Bolt3 to RAID storage–such as the LaCie 12big Thunderbolt 3–in only 5 minutes and 11 seconds (based on 764GB per hour of 4K GoPro footage (source) and 764GB per hour of 4K ProRes 4444 XQ footage (source). Quantitative usage examples for various applications are for illustrative purposes).

The LaCie Bolt3 is engineered for long term reliability–from the enclosure to the internal components–to endure intensive storage tasks. Each product is individually Computer Numerical Control machined from solid aluminum blocks for rigid durability and heat dissipation. Effective cooling helps to ensure long-term component health. The stand securely docks the product with powerful neodymium magnets–and detaches for easy transport.

LaCie Bolt 3: world's fastest desktop driveWith up to 120TB of massive capacity, the breakthrough performance of Thunderbolt 3 and RAID 5/6, the LaCie 12big, first shown at the 2016 National Association of Broadcasters Show, and the new LaCie 6big help video professionals meet the data demands of 4/5/6K cameras. Both feature Seagate enterprise-class drives with 256MB cache and 7200RPM for superb accessibility, reliability and robust performance.

“From ultra high-resolution cameras to virtual reality to drones, the new experiences that content creators can bring to life are truly exciting,” said Tim Bucher, Senior Vice President of Seagate and LaCie Branded Solutions. “Creating these experiences generates unprecedented amounts of data while requiring extreme performance, and today we’re thrilled to help our customers by offering best-in-class storage solutions that excel in even the most demanding video workflows.”

Thunderbolt 3 speeds of up to 2600MB/s for LaCie 12big and 1400MB/s for LaCie 6big slash time off nearly every post-production workflow task. Users can then edit multiple streams of ProRes 422 (HQ), ProRes 4444 XQ, as well as uncompressed HD 10-bit and 12-bit video. What’s more, photographers can transfer RAW photos quickly and edit in Adobe Lightroom without lag. Plus, with up to 120TB of capacity, the LaCie 12big can store 100 hours of 4K ProRes 4444 XQ footage in RAID 5 (*.

With double the video bandwidth of its predecessor, Thunderbolt 3 lets a user daisy chain dual 4K displays or a single 5K display to the LaCie 12big or LaCie 6big. With two 4K displays, users can spread out their workspace by dedicating one display to the timeline and the other to previewing 4K footage, for example. It’s even possible to power a compatible laptop through the USB-C cable (delivers up to 15W to power compatible laptops). Additionally, the user can connect to USB 3.0 computers via the included USB-C to USB-A cable.

The LaCie 12big and LaCie 6big are engineered to handle demanding video workflows. Front-accessible drives offer convenient and quick drive replacement and front-facing drive status LEDs help the user keep track of drive health and RAID build status. The aluminum enclosure dissipates heat far better than plastic, while two thermoregulated fans pull heat away from internal components. Both the LaCie 12big and LaCie 6big are protected by a five-year limited warranty that covers drives, enclosure and spare parts.

LaCie has also partnered with Peli Products to offer custom cases to safely transport the LaCie 12big or 6big to and from set. The Peli Storm Case is an injection-molded case made of HPX high-performance resin that is virtually unbreakable and resistant to dents and shatter. The custom, durable foam configuration houses a LaCie 12big or 6big, multiple LaCie Rugged drives and accessories such as cords or a power supply. The cases are lightweight, airtight, watertight and backed by Peli’s lifetime warranty. Follow the link for more information.

The LaCie Bolt3 will come in a 2TB SSD capacity for $1999.00. The LaCie 6big will come in 24TB, 36TB, 48TB and 60TB capacities starting at $3199.00. The LaCie 12big will come in 48TB, 72TB, 96TB and 120TB capacities starting at $6399.00. The custom Peli Storm cases start at $349.00. All LaCie Thunderbolt 3 solutions and the custom Peli Storm cases will be available at LaCie resellers this quarter.
