The new display combines UltraClear 4K resolution – 3840 x 2160 pixels – with the extra-wide colour gamut of UltraColor technology and advanced Vertical Alignment (VA) technology for super-high contrast. The expansive 31.5-inch 328P6VJEB display gives users plenty of room to spread out and enjoy vivid, detailed reproduction in Ultra High Definition. The new Social Publishing panel (beta) in Premiere Pro

Adobe thinks that online content creators are spending too much time preparing video for social media channels. Deciding on codecs & various settings, description fields, and tags, and later interpreting video stats can be a time sink. To help out, Adobe is piloting a new streamlined workflow in Premiere Pro for publishing videos to social media, optimized for content creators.

With cross-platform social publishing and performance tracking, strategic recommendations to achieve peak performance, and time-savers like the ability to save custom keyword sets and upload custom thumbnails, the Social Publishing Panel (beta) is designed to make online video publishing easier.


Currently, the Social Publishing Panel feature is in beta, limited to paid Creative Cloud members, and open for applications starting November 2. Let’s hope that the render engine is now the same everywhere, not one for apps and another for Adobe Media Encoder.

Easily select social media export presets, populate required platform-specific metadata, and add tags from within Premiere Pro.

Rendition Groups allow you to group two or more videos together during the publish stage so that they are tracked as a single asset across the different social platforms you post to. For example, a 10-minute vlog posted on YouTube along with a shorter version with silent auto-play captions for Facebook and a 30-second version for use as promotion on Twitter, can be tracked across all of the platforms as if it were a single video. You can view performance of the collection as a whole, or dig deeper into each rendition’s performance based on platform so you can manage and promote content renditions more easily.

Panavision takes Millenium DXL to Poland

Panavision takes Millenium DXL to Poland

New Panavision T Series anamorphic lenses, two workshops, a mobile post-production system, the unique Millennium DXL and other offerings mark Panavision’s exhibiting space at the European film festival.

Unveiled earlier this year, the Panavision Millennium DXL was developed through an unprecedented collaboration of three companies, bringing together large-format optics and modular accessories from Panavision; an 8K sensor from RED Digital Cinema; and new color science and optimized workflow from Light Iron. Presentations on the DXL at the Camerimage International Film Festival will take place each day from Nov. 14 through Nov. 17, with demo footage screening at the MCK. The camera is expected to be available in early 2017 for rent exclusively through Panavision facilities worldwide.

The company also takes to Poland the Panavision T Series anamorphic lenses. At Panavision’s exhibit, attendees will see the product portfolio, ranging in current focal lengths of 35mm, 60mm, 100mm, 135mm, 150mm, and preview the upcoming additions to the lineup in 50mm, 75mm, 180mm. The lenses build on Panavision’s long tradition of designing and developing high-quality anamorphic lenses for motion picture. They combine new optical layouts with mechanical advances from the G Series, but have a larger sweet spot and focus closer than some of their predecessors. They are also tuned to be compatible with digital sensors without losing any of the imaging characteristics that have become part of the anamorphic grammar.

Camerimage’s Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Michael Chapman, ASC will be taking the stage at the MCK on Nov. 15 at 11:00 a.m. CET. This event is a highlight of the festival, which is presented by Panavision. Oscar nominated for his work on Raging Bull in 1981 and The Fugitive in 1994, Chapman’s legacy of film images over four decades places him among the elite of cinematographers. His list of memorable credits includes The Last Detail, Taxi Driver, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Lost Boys, Rising Sun, Primal Fear, Space Jam, Six Days Seven Nights, The Story of Us, The Watcher, Evolution, and Eulogy, among many others.

Following Chapman’s seminar, Panavision’s Cinematography Workshop will explore the technical and artistic characteristics of anamorphic and larger format optics. Led by Dan Sasaki, Panavision’s VP of Optical Engineering, the workshop will be held Nov. 15 from 2:00 p.m. CET in the MCK.

Also on exhibit will be the new Outpost by Panavision, a powerful mobile post-production system for on-set or near-set workflows. Originally developed by Light Iron and refined with Panavision’s modular engineering, Outpost’s lightweight, compact form factor provides efficient solutions for both creative tasks, such as look setting and processing tasks, including verified backups. Outpost helps creatives maximize their schedules with faster than real-time transcodes and same-day editorial deliverables, even for 8K footage. Like the DXL, Outpost is designed with many details and custom modules that can be configured to each production’s needs.

LEE Filters, the world’s leading manufacturer of professional quality light control filters, will debut their Cine Filters, a new range of glass neutral density camera filters. Also highlighted at the exhibit will be LEE’s Zircon Lighting Filters designed for LED lighting with new technology that gives them an increased lifespan of up to 200 times longer than standard lighting filters. Attendees can also pick up the latest copy of the famous LEE yellow swatch book, containing all their color effects filters as well as their full range of technical and diffusion filters for cinematography.

Panalux, the leading provider of lighting rental equipment for film, television, and media production, will display their latest in LED lighting technology. The rental and service provider will showcase and demo the lightweight, battery-powered Panalux LED Flex Light and yet-to-be-released soft box accessory. The bi-color, super-slim Panalux LED Flex Light is bendable and portable. The newest accessory to the Flex Light is a quick-assemble, large-format soft box that produces a beautiful, even soft light that makes the low-consumption Flex Light even more versatile. Also on display will be the Panalux Tektile2 slimline LED panels and Panalux NessLED Kit.

Definitive Guide to Editing With DaVinci Resolve Released

Blackmagic releases the official hands-on guide to editing with DaVinci Resolve 12.5. DaVinci Resolve, arguably one of the most popular dedicated color correction programs, has “dabbled” in editing with an ever increasingly complex feature set. I have, on occasion, edited in DaVinci Resolve 12.5 but I could definitely use more training, which is the exact reason I do not edit in the program more. The official hands-on training book will cover all aspects of editing with DaVinci Resolve 12.5 and will teach you the skills necessary to be a professional Resolve editor.

Editing in Resolve 12.5

It is all about the “Round-Trip” or the lack of it. For me, I tend to edit in either Adobe Premiere or Avid Media Composer. This leaves me with color correcting my raw footage in DaVinci Resolve 12.5 and editing in a separate program. Then I either conform my low-rez footage to the 4.6K raw at the end or export a QuickTime and auto-cut with the Scene Detector tool in Resolve. Neither one of these options seems ideal for me. I work in a world of tight deadlines and sometimes the option to go back and finesse the color of the video is a luxury. But, staying in one single program seems like a smart option. Especially if all I’m doing is a basic edit with a small amount of graphics. It has worked for me on smaller spots and I could see it working just as well on bigger projects.

From “the ultimate tripod head solution” in 2015, to the suggestion made above, the FlexTilt Head 2 received one additional joint that makes it, says edelkrone, much more versatile. That’s enough to rename the product and give it the FlexTilt Head 2 designation.

When we wrote about the original model we wrote this: “Small, with 85 x 95 x 27mm and a weight of 0,405 kg, the Flex-Tilt Head offers a spirit-level, the usual industry connections (1/4?-20 on top and 3/8?-16 on bottom), and fits in a corner of any backpack. Although it is meant to be used with a tripod, monopod or even small sliders, the Flex-Tilt Head can be used on its own, allowing its placement on the ground or up above, without any other form of support. This allows for some interesting image angles, as the promotional video suggests.”

Dimensions and weight are not much different from the original, and the concept of no buttons no locks and no knobs is still present. The joints in the FlexTilt Head 2 use edelkrone’s one-of-a kind content friction technology, says the company, which “can only be produced by super precise CNC machining” so FlexiTilt Head 2 joints “never get loose even after many adjustments unlike the copycats in the market”.

The FlexTilt Head 2, like the previous model, not only gives you a stand-alone base for placing your camera in different positions, it also allows for instant height adjustment when using a tripod, without the need to touch the tripod. It can also be used with a dolly for some longer shots, as it allows to increase range with any slider by 6.7 in /17cm) when fully extended.

With precise and smooth panning with pan markings and lens center shifting, the FlexTilt Head 2 looks, at least on paper, as an interesting portable solution to take everywhere. But only a real world test will reveal if it is more than just a good idea. It costs EUR139.99 (without taxes) in Europe and edelkrone has no indication of price for the United States.

It’s even possible to power a compatible laptop through the USB-C cable (delivers up to 15W to power compatible laptops). The LaCie 12big and LaCie 6big are engineered to handle demanding video workflows. The aluminum enclosure dissipates heat far better than plastic, while two thermoregulated fans pull heat away from internal components. LaCie has also partnered with Peli Products to offer custom cases to safely transport the LaCie 12big or 6big to and from set. The Peli Storm Case is an injection-molded case made of HPX high-performance resin that is virtually unbreakable and resistant to dents and shatter.
